New vid! - "Rain Dogs" (Farscape)
After several months of vidding downtime, I've finished a new vid. This vid actually went wickedly fast; I've been sitting on the idea for awhile so I think all of that pre-vidding percolation really helped.

Title: Rain Dogs
Song: "Rain Dogs" by Tom Waits
Fandom: Farscape
Spoilers: All of season 1
Summary: And you whispered to me, "you'll never be going back home"
Download: Quicktime (21 MB) OR Divx AVI (18 MB)

For best viewing of Quicktime files, I recommend the FREE VLC Player, which plays all kinds of file formats and is available for multiple platforms.

Inside a broken clock,
splashing the wine with all the rain dogs
Taxi, we'd rather walk,
huddle a doorway with the rain dogs
For I am a rain dog, too

Oh, how we danced and we swallowed the night
For it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh, how we danced away all of the lights
We've always been out of our minds

The rum pours strong and thin,
beat out the dustman with the rain dogs
Aboard a shipwreck train,
give my umbrella to the rain dogs
For I am a rain dog, too

Oh, how we danced with the Rose of Tralee
Her long hair black as a raven
Oh, how we danced and you whispered to me
"You'll never be going back home"

Oh, how we danced with the Rose of Tralee
Her long hair black as a raven
Oh, how we danced and you whispered to me
"You'll never be going back home"

Big, huge thank-yous to [info]f1renze for her attention to all of the little details that made this vid complete; [info]fer1213 for her input, as always; and [info]sisabet for speaking the Official Quibble. :)

Umm more explanation if the keyboard doesn't screw up again.

You've not only used my all time favorite Tom Waits song, but it's farscape. Finally an sdwolfpup farscape vid:):):) Heeeeee:):) You know how to brighten a girl's craptastic week, ya know;)

I'm glad I could help. :) Hopefully it will satisfy the song for you!

Oh man, you never disappoint. Absolutely beautiful, and the song is such a perfect fit -- bittersweet with melodies of humor. And as usual, watching one of your vids caused my mind to consciously recognize much of the season1 symbolism. I'd never quite noticed the prevalence of the ring and that every time John gives it up to someone, a little more of his innocence and peacefulness is lost.

Very nice season 1 tie together. great job! *pushes more farscape clips your way*

For he is a rain dog TOO!! Oh my god. Loved this. And the "umbrella"/ring as a reoccuring symbol and the way you handled the weirdness and bond of all of the characters in the most quirky, maudlin way possible... so very fitting for both the show and for Tom Waits. Yay! You are so awesome.

Also? I'm left with the feeling that you and Farscape just kinda click somehow, vidding wise. Very awesome.

On the rewatch, I would like to say: Crraaaaazzy jumpcuts! Growly! That little twinkle on the ring! Taxi - we'd rather walk! We've always been out of our minds! The dancing DRDs!

And this is the first Farscape vid I remember watching that really makes use of subtlety of expression. Tiny smiles and implacable looks and bemused eyebrows. Dude.

Yay! The very first Farscape vid I've watched where I get pretty much all the context! :D

I think this is one I'm going to be watching over and over for some time but I liked it very much on first viewing. It just made me smile and reminded me (like I need reminding, still in the throes of first viewing) just how cool this show is!

Oh, I so suck at vid review but does I love it eleventy!!!11!! work for you?

Hee. Seriously, a great mix of song and series. You really captured the quirky/funny/sad that is Farscape. Loved the John/Aeryn kisses especially (and her long hair black as a raven), and there was one part where it seemed like Rygel was singing with Tom Waits voice which is perfect, of course, and made me giggle.

This is great! Man, that final shot is killer. Just absolutely killer.

And what's best -- I don't even know what the hell is really going on in a lot of the clips, but it doesn't matter! I get where you're going, and you make it easy for me to pick up what I need to. I loved that part with all the shots of John and Aeryn just boom boom boom, so close, and that feeling of yet too far, just snap snap snap. Very cool. I loved how you managed to get long clips of opening and closing doors on those bum-bum-bum-bum-bum beats.

Whee!!!

Oh, this just dances. And early Farscape and they're still so innocent, and the ring, and Aeryn's long hair black as a raven, and the speeded-up stuff, and the timing, and I love it.

(Yes, I am still having that problem with articulate feedback).

The more I watch this, the more I like it. And it does help that I'm watching it without all that cotton stuffed in my head today. ;) I love the glints off the ring. I don't remember seeing those before.

Very well done, my dear!

Great choice of music and clips!

Finally just had the chance to watch this version... LOVE. You sped up some of the beginning stuff! I like it--the timing was excellent in the version I saw, but this is tighter, and it's fabulous. And something that really struck me this time is how you use the "never be going back home" in so many ways... John is (he thinks) literally never going back home, but that shot of him looking up at Aeryn underscores that Moya has become his home, and then that final shot really hits you with the fact that John's life will never be the same, he will never be the same, so you get that meaning of "home," too. I think I sort of felt that before, but it really bowled me over this time. Lovely.

And I literally laughed out loud at the first little "bing!" of light on the ring. Hee!

And have I mentioned that John is hot? All PK-ed out, saluting Aeryn? *sigh*

In any case, this is brilliant. I can't wait for the next one (HINT HINT). ;)

Thank you very much. :)

The light effect on the ring was something I was really nervous about, so I'm glad it worked. Effects on my own vids always look incredibly cheesy to me; I have no distance from them.

F1renze really helped tighten the vid with a few frame changes of where clips were placed; I'm much happier with it.

I *really* *REALLY* want to watch this, but now that I've started watching more of the show, I don't want to start understanding what I see too much. Is it spoilery?

It is spoilery for Season 1. I would recommend holding off until you finish just that season. Believe, I know just how hard it is to wait on watching Farscape vids once you start watching the show! Hence the vid recs post. (There's a "Premiere" vid that's pretty good that I rec'd there, it's in my Links Sidebar if you want to go see.)

Here via [info]gwyn_r's rec, and I wanted to tell you I enjoyed this very much. The timing to Tom Waits' quirky song was so perfect for this show, but at the same time a little sad, to know the lyrics and watch John yearn for home.

The only thing missing is my understanding of how the show ended. Someday I'll watch it all...probably through the late night reruns I've just discovered.

Thank you for your comments! I was struck by how ominous/sad the song was even with that bizarre, quirky beat, so I'm really glad to hear that feeling came through. And I hope you do get a chance to finish the series, it's spectacular. :)

Eee! I'm sorry, Windows Media problems kept me from seeing this until just now, but I had to come back and leave some feedback. What a weird and amazing song choice! I loved every second, even if I only fully 'got' about 40% of it (I've only seen bits of Farscape). Especially enjoyed the recurring image of the ring, the shot of the little robots on the first "how we danced" line (aww!), and the intercut John/Aeryn kisses. Great video.

I always thought of season two being the one with all the "big" moments, but this vid reminds me how very cool and how put together S1 could be, and you did an awesome job of putting in what seem to be the little moments that are actually big huge symbolic Farscape MOMENTS. This vid is so, so awesome with its own continuity and spirit and just the right tone for the subject matter. Not too heavy and not too light. It's a justright vid and you've done some brilliant editing here.

Thank you so much!

S1 has a surprisingly good continuity, given how many one-shot episodes they did and the simple fact that they were just getting started. Thank you for the wonderful comments, I'm so glad to hear that the tone worked!

Absolutely. I love the entire series, and how well everything meshed together so wonderfully. And the character development! You just don't see that often, not to this extent.

Okay, I'm no longer talking about your vid now, just doing some incoherent Farscape squeeing. *grin*

I love how this opens with the fast foward introduction to everything, and then builds up the team and the quirky truth of them, all with Crichton as the pivot point. And it should almost go without saying that I adore the ring connecting the entire vid together (not to mention the sparkle--somehow the flat quality of it fits the atmosphere of the show much better than a more gradiated lens-flare type sparkle).

I feel the need to squee over the Tom Waits, and how much I like how his strangeness adds to the show. It feels right in step. And there is something about how you handle this show in vids that feels very natural, very in sync with the way the show feels (to me so far anyway). I always think your vids feel true to their shows, whatever aspect you're pulling out, but the FS ones--I think it might be the way you play the movement in the show off of your cutting that really brings the style of the show itself to the surface.

Hee, all caught up! Now I can sit back and wait for more new ones. :D

I'm glad to hear the Tom Waits' choice worked! I know his voice is a bit strange for folks, but I think, as you say, Farscape just lives and breathes that, even in relatively tame Season 1.

Thank you for your comments! I'm happy you were able to watch it. :)
