New vid! Sort of. "Six Angels" (Multifandom)
This is a new vid, but publishing it is really superfluous at this point, since the intended audience for this vid has already seen it. :) I made it for [info]brynnmck for her birthday. And when I say I made it for brynn, I mean it was made specifically for the things she loves. In the case that you love these things too, I'm posting it. As such - and this is a first for me, because I am all about being open to concrit normally - while feedback is always welcomed, please no critique for just this vid in particular. Thank you.

Title: Six Angels
Song: Headstones, "Three Angels"
Fandoms: Hard Core Logo, Supernatural, Due South, Alias, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape
Spoilers: Nothing too shocking, but assume early season spoilers for everything, and later season spoilers for Farscape
Summary: That's the thing about living

Download: QuickTime (51 MB) (right click, save target as to download)

Lyrics
Three angels set the table for me, tonight
They know my face, they set a place, it's for me, tonight
I can't disappoint 'em, guess I'll join 'em
They've been waiting on me forever
And I've been down on Earth and in this town
And I swear there's got to be something better

New suit, and a new tie
A real nice service for me when I die
New suit, new cuff links, and a new tie
A real nice service for me when I die

Well that's the thing about living
You get there, you're seldom forgiven
And all your best friends are people that you've just met
You can take 'em or leave 'em
But they're sitting in this barroom
And I guess it beats the hell out of loneliness
Sweet loneliness, sweet loneliness

I heard you say you gave it, gave it all away
You got nothing left to trade
I heard you say you gave it, gave it all away
You got nothing left to trade

We're the type, we live and learn
Scatter my ashes then you smash the urn
Into a broken room with 25 doors that you can't open
And each time you open one
The other 24 they're exploding, exploding

That's the thing about living
You get there, you take what you're given
And all your best friends are people that you've just met
You can take 'em or leave 'em
They're sitting in this barroom
And I guess it beats the hell out of loneliness
Sweet loneliness, sweet loneliness, sweet

All right

New suit, and a new tie
A real nice service for me when I die

Many thanks to [info]zabira for her beta efforts! Especially since I had an unfortunate time crunch for beta'ing. I appreciate it, Z. :)

You did a vid to Three Angels!! Ohmygod AWESOME! The link doesn't seem to be working for me though.

ETA: Ok, now it is. Sorry.

Ohmygod! Dude, this is awesome. The transitions from one show to another! Fraser's father being one of the people that he'd just met! Fraser learning not to be lonely! The opening on HCL as three angels and the moment on "waiting on me forever"! And KARA! And yes. To sum up, this was a fabulous gift for Brynn full of wonderful things and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

That was awesome! I'm incredibly impressed that you were able to tie the various fandoms together so well without a theme besides stuff Brynn likes. ;) My favorite segue is from BSG to Farscape and one ship changing into another.

Hee! I honestly was pleased, too - I wasn't sure it would work at first but when I figured out the transitions (which were the first bits I settled on), I knew the rest would fall into place. Thanks!

Even though you've got Six different shows in the vid, it still feels emotionally cohesive -- loss and connection and love that endures -- and I'm not even brynn! I honestly had a lump in the throat by the time we got to the Farscape section and the last iteration of "And all your friends are people that you've just met" to the clips of John bonding with his crew/friends. Lovely work.

Aw, thank you so much, Vonnie.

loss and connection and love that endures

You really got exactly the heart of what I was trying to capture emotionally, so I especially appreciate you saying that.

SDW! This is AWESOME! Great great pacing, and I am AMAZED at your flawless, seamless transitions. And oh, so much squee for some of the associations, especially the "best friends are people you've just met" lines. SO MANY WOOBIES. *is in love*

omgomg I am excited!! Even though three of those, I have never even seen once! \o/

And using this song? Heart! I am glad you are sharing with non-Brynn people. ;D

also, note to self: remove eye makeup before watching, cause I am sure to get teary. Heh.

edit: I have seen it now! <3 It's LOVELY. Even though I've never seen an episode of three of those shows, hee. But I love the transistion from HCL to Supernatural and the transistion from Alias to BSG the mostest. :D

I.. may have automatically whimpered when it switched to due South. Because-- FRASER! With the LOVE!

And yes, the bit for "been waiting on me forever" was just perfect.

Yay, multi-fandom vid ftw!

But, wait...aren't B-Day vids supposed to be happy? :)

And yet, here is a compelling study in emotional pain that spares us none of the tragedy these characters undergo but doesn't devolve into sappiness or over-the-top-ness. That's a tough line to walk, and you walked it with aplomb.

Kick ass vid there, man! It's funny how few fandoms we share... :) I liked that each fandom got its own chapter so to speak. It just worked so well with the flow of the vid. Awesome work.

While I was only into three of the six fandoms, I couldn't help but love any vid that reminded me of just how good Alias was when it was firing on all cylinders in the early days. Great work, as always.

I actually watched the pilot episode of Alias for the first time and really liked it. I think I'm going to watch up to the last five minutes of season 2, as I've been advised - by multiple people.

Thank you!

EEEE! Yays!

Okay, I knew this was gonna be great and not only that, but it FINALLY 'splained to me the "broken room with 25 doors that you can't open./And each time you open one, the other 24 they're explodin'" Yes! It's like Hugh needed you and BSG to make those lines make sense to anyone outside Hugh's head.

Also, the transition from Fraser to Sidney is terrific, both with the motion and the fathers in the background. I actually really love the reveal there on that transition, because for an instant at first when it cuts to Sidney, you get a ?? and then AHA! That's awesome.

And also, the FS "it beats the hell out of loneliness" is great with John's pod, but it's fabulous with Aeryn and her slicked hair and resistance to the kiss. boo ya, man!

No wonder birthday girl's heart exploded. :)

Hee. I didn't get it until I realized that section was Kara through and through, and then it suddenly made sense to me, so you're probably right!

I'm really glad the Fraser -> Sidney transition worked. I had tinkered with that section a bit to try to get it to move a little faster, but ultimately I think the way it built was worth the pause in the transition.

Thank you, Sal! :)

it was absolutely my pleasure to beta watch this, SD! thank you for asking me to help. and i thought you might like to know that i've watched it several more times this week, and--just as i thought--the subtle way you've used the music lends the vid to (thoroughly enjoyable) multiple viewings.

i marvel at this vid, actually: it is so personal for brynn, and it also includes a number of fandom about which i know nothing, and yet it is STILL compelling and emotionally satisfying. and gah. the transitions? i will never get tired of that GENIUS. also? BILLY'S SMILE. *sigh* best thing ever.

This is just great! I like the way you've focused on relationships that aren't often vidded -- Fraser and his father, for example -- and your transitions from fandom to fandom are perfect, seamless.

This vid has a lot of heart. It made me feel warm inside.
